Who Manages What?

Major companies are sometimes seen as a threat to the environment. One of the reasons for this is that they are good at sorting out their goals, setting objectives and delegating tasks. In short, they are good at getting things done! The other essential components of management are the authority and the resources to act.

We can certainly discount any of the voluntary bodies. They have neither the resources nor the authority to manage (except within certain privately run sites such as RSPB reserves) . However, the better organised voluntary groups, including the Solent Forum are sometimes effective at bringing pressure to bear on those statutory bodies than can act.

The table below indicates who controls activities at the coast. Each will be examined further. The key problem is that their management activity is not coordinated.
